Wings and Slaw

If you love your BBQ wings this meal has to go on your list of dinners to cook this week. Recreate the feel of an American diner in your own home and add a great side such as homemade coleslaw and sweet potato fries. Homemade coleslaw is surprisingly easy to make and will be healthier and cheaper than any packaged coleslaw.

Cook time: 1 hour
Ingredients:
Chicken wings
·         1 Lemon
·         Vinegar
·         Black pepper
·         Thyme
·         BBQ sauce
·         Honey
·         Sugar
·         Hot sauce (optional)
·         Olive oil
·         1 sweet potato
·         1 Cabbage
·         1 carrot
·         Mayonnaise
·         Parsley

Cooking

Chicken wings
  1. Start by cutting off the bony tip of the wing, it is also known as the flapper and should leave your wings with two remaining joints.
  2. Place your wings in a bowl of vinegar, water and squeeze your lemon into the bowl. Allow this soak for a while, once soaked use your lemon to rub down the outside of the chicken wing, wash with cold water then drain.
  3. To make your BBQ sauce:  in a bowl put BBQ, one spoon of sugar and honey and sprinkle with black pepper and thyme.  Optional add hot pepper sauce to this to make your BBQ wings spicy.
  4. Grab your chicken wings and cover them in your BBQ sauce and place them into an oven dish with a tiny bit of olive oil.
  5. Turn your oven to 200c and allow your chicken wings to cook for 40-50 minutes, turning them over halfway.
  6. (Once you are ready to turn them over cover your wings with more BBQ sauce and place back into the oven)

Sweet Potato Fries
  1. Peel your sweet potato, wash and slice it.
  2. Place this onto a tray with olive oil and cook your sweet potatoes for 13-15 minutes at 200c, turning them over half way.

Coleslaw
  1. Wash and peel your carrot, using your grater, grate your carrot into a bowl with mayonnaise.
  2. Wash and slice your cabbage into half, then using a vegetable peeler peel your cabbage into your bowl using the same technique as you have grated your carrot.
  3. Mix these two together in your bowl and add in some black pepper and parsley.
  4. Optional: add some raisins or cherries to your coleslaw for a sweeter taste!
